Employment Status Permanent, Full time
Employment Arrangement 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy.
Salary Commencing from $102,229.40 (Grade 19, Step 1) plus 11.5% Superannuation. The successful candidate will have access to step increases based on competency assessment and tenure within the position. 

Council Overview

Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.

About the Role

The Support Officer, People & Culture plays a vital role in delivering high-quality administrative and operational support across payroll, people and culture, talent, operations, and organisational development functions.

This position will assist with the accurate and timely processing of payroll data, supports the maintenance of human resource and payroll systems, and contributes to the integrity of employee records and reporting.

The role supports the full payroll cycle, assists with audits, and ensures compliance with internal processes and legislative requirements.

Beyond payroll, the Support Officer, People & Culture contributes to broader People & Culture initiatives, including staff engagement, policy development, and continuous improvement of systems and workflows.

The role is instrumental in maintaining accurate workforce data, supporting internal events, and assisting with the implementation of strategic people initiatives. With a strong focus on collaboration, confidentiality, and attention to detail, this position supports a positive employee experience and helps drive operational excellence across the People & Culture function.

This role is expected to provide generalist support to payroll and all function areas of the People and Culture team.

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • A tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in a human resources or payroll role, with sound knowledge of HR functions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to foster effective working relationships across all levels of the organisation and with external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to support the development and implementation of efficient HR and payroll administrative systems and procedures.
  • Experience in leading projects aimed at enhancing or improving human resource management systems.
  • Skilled in influencing and negotiating with a diverse range of stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
  • A track record of accountability and responsibility in all aspects of work.
  • Ability to always handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality service to employees and stakeholders.
  • A demonstrated dedication to fostering a positive workplace culture and promoting health and safety in the workplace.
  • Collaborative approach, working proactively with People and Culture team members to achieve shared goals.
  • Possession of a current, unrestricted NSW Driver Licence.
