Employment Arrangement 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy
Salary Commencing from $102,229.40 (Grade 19, Step 1) plus 11.5% Superannuation. The successful candidate will have access to step increases based on competency assessment and tenure within the position. 

Council Overview

Strathfield Council is a medium sized Council located in Sydney’s Inner West. The area of the Council comprises approximately 14 square kilometres and has an estimated population of 46,000 residents, which is growing at 2.5-3% annually. Based on NSW Government projections, the population will increase to over 80,000 by 2036.

About the Role

The Corporate Officer, People & Performance role supports the delivery of Council’s corporate planning and business improvement functions by undertaking research, analysis, and coordination tasks. This role assists in the development and monitoring of Council’s Integrated Planning & Reporting (IP&R) documents and contributes to a range of performance improvement initiatives and projects.

The Corporate Officer, People & Performance role’s objective is to execute core tasks such as data gathering, analysis, grant administration, and documentation preparation to ensure strategic plans and improvement projects are based on evidence and are delivered effectively. Working under the guidance of the Senior Coordinator Corporate Planning & Improvement, the Corporate Officer, People & Performance collaborates with stakeholders across the organisation to gather information, implement solutions, and support the development of strategies and policies that enhance Council’s performance and service delivery.

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

    • Tertiary qualifications at degree level in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrated equivalent competencies gained though experience.
    • Demonstrated experience in local government legislation and framework.
    • Well-developed conceptual, research, analytical skills.
    • Knowledge and understanding of the political policy process and the relationship of Councils to State and Commonwealth Government, and knowledge and understanding of legislation (including Regulations) applicable to Council.
    • Demonstrated experience of Integrated Planning, Policy and Governance in Local Government.
    • Demonstrated experience in Award nomination writing.
    • Demonstrated experience in service reviews and/or business performance framework application.
    • Demonstrated experience in contributing to an annual report process or similar.
    • Superior written and oral communication skills, combined with proven ability to negotiate and interact on complex and sensitive issues.
    • Proven ability in the provision of policy advice.
    • Proven ability to collaborate and consult across a wide range of stakeholders.
    • Ability to manage projects and to undertake complex research and analysis.
    • Sound understanding of the environment in which Government operates, including policies, practices, and the ability to work with relevant legislation.
    • Ability to meet deadlines and to balance competing priorities.
    • Experience with collaborative community engagement. (Desirable)
    • Experience in public policy development. (Desirable)
    • Understanding of the demographic profile of the Strathfield Municipality. (Desirable)
