Employment Arrangement: 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy
Salary Range:

  • Base Salary: From $118,664.00 (Grade 20, Step 1) per annum
  • Plus: 12% superannuation
  • Allowance: Vehicle Allowance $10,780.00*
  • Total Package: $143,684.00*

*The successful candidate will have the option to choose one option of either a vehicle allowance or access to a leaseback vehicle through the Council’s Leaseback Vehicle Program. Please note that if the leaseback vehicle is selected, the vehicle allowance will not be provided.

The successful candidate will have access to step increases for the grade based on competency assessment and tenure within this position.

The Opportunity

Strathfield Council is looking for a proactive and experienced Senior Development Compliance Officer to become a key member of our Compliance & Regulatory Services team.

In this pivotal role, you will help shape the future of our growing community by ensuring development across the area is safe, lawful, and of the highest quality.

You will lead investigations into unauthorised land use and building works, assess development certificates, enforce compliance with relevant legislation, and provide expert guidance to internal and external stakeholders. Your work will directly support Council’s commitment to responsible planning and development.

As a senior officer, you will also assist the Coordinator in preparing strategic advice and recommendations, contribute to legal proceedings when required, and play a vital role in maintaining transparency and accountability in development compliance.

Essential Requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications in Building Surveying, Town Planning, Investigations, or related discipline.
  • Current and maintain annual Building Certifier accreditation NSW Fair Trading.
  • Prior experience in building and compliance regulatory and/or enforcement roles.
  • Demonstrated experience in resolving compliance issues and an ability to negotiate and mediate on contentious matters, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the relevant regulations such as the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Protection of the Environmental Operations Act, Local Government Act and Swimming Pools Act.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Building Code of Australia and relevant Australian Standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide detailed and accurate reports on building, fire safety and compliance matters.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to deal with a diverse range of customers in a professional and empathetic manner.
  • Sound computer literacy, proficient in using personal computers and Microsoft Office packages.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work, even under pressure with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to changing priorities.
  • Current and unrestricted Class C Drivers Licence.
