Buildings and Facilities Officer

  • Manage and coordinate the maintenance, renewal and upgrade of Council buildings and facilities in accordance with legislative, safety and asset management requirements.
  • This role is ideally suited to someone with a trade or building maintenance background who enjoys practical, hands-on problem solving.
  • Coordinate maintenance, capital works and stakeholder engagement for major facilities, including the Smithton Wellbeing Indoor Recreation Leisure (SWIRL) Facility.
  • Conduct and maintain compliant building inspections, essential safety measures, asbestos registers, and electrical testing and tagging programs.
  • Oversee utility and energy management functions, including public and private lighting coordination and liaison with relevant authorities.
  • Administer Council’s key and security systems, maintaining accurate records and coordinating with security contractors and IT services.
  • Effectively manage contracts, addressing non-conformances, maintaining accurate records, and escalating issues as required.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service, responding to internal and external enquiries, requests and complaints in line with Council service standards.

Position Overview

The Building and Facilities Officer is responsible for planning, coordinating and supporting the provision of safe, compliant and fit-for-purpose Council buildings and facilities. This is achieved through the documentation and delivery of building renewal and upgrade programs, routine and legislated asset inspections, and the effective coordination of maintenance activities.

The role works closely with contractors, internal Council employees and stakeholders to ensure building maintenance, renewal and upgrade works are delivered in accordance with established service standards, safety requirements and project outcomes.

Work conditions will be in accordance with Circular Head Council Enterprise Agreement.

Candidate Profile

Council is seeking a motivated and capable Building and Facilities Officer with demonstrated experience in the inspection, management and coordination of buildings and facilities within a regulated environment. The successful candidate will bring a practical, detail-oriented approach, strong technical capability, and a commitment to safety, compliance and service delivery, and will enjoy working on site and solving building maintenance issues.

  • Certificate IV in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrated equivalent experience, with current Working at Heights certification or willingness to obtain.
  • Current Driver Licence, with the ability to travel between Council facilities as required.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to coordinate tasks, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a dynamic and changing work environment.
  • Well-developed written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with contractors, colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and set budgets, ensuring value for money across building and facilities operations.
