Council is seeking applications from candidates who are currently or have completed a Certificate III in Electrotechnology and interested in completing a dual trade. 

About the Apprenticeship:

Tweed Shire Council is proud to offer an Apprenticeship with our Water and Wastewater - Operations team. As an apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Instrumentation and Control. 

As an Apprentice Instrumentation Technician, you will help to maintain and enhance Council’s Telemetry, SCADA and Flood Warning, Electronic and Instrumentation Systems. This would include maintenance, installation, response, diagnostic and repair services for the Water and Wastewater infrastructure.

In order to meet the requirements of the Apprenticeship, successful completion of on-the-job training and studies is required. 

What you'll do:

  • Assist in maintaining and enhancing Council’s Telemetry, SCADA, and Flood Warning Systems for our Water and Wastewater Infrastructure.
  • Support the upkeep of Electronic and Instrumentation Systems under supervision.
  • Participate in installation of equipment and systems.
  • Respond to service requests and system issues.
  • Assist with diagnosing faults and troubleshooting problems.
  • Carry out basic repair services under the guidance of qualified technicians.
  • Learn and apply safe work practices and technical procedures.

What's on offer:

  • A full-time position for a maximum period of up to 48 months, commencing July 2025.
  • A starting base salary ranging from $32,973 to $62,358 per annum +11.5% super. Salary progression is based on satisfactory completion of study plus work performance.
  • Council will cover the associated course costs.

We are seeking:

  • Interest in Instrumentation and Control Systems.
  • A strong passion for math and sciences, including coding.
  • Completed Year 12 in Standard, Advanced or Extension Mathematics subjects (Desirable).
  • Completed Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) (Desirable).
  • Ability to work effectively in a small team environment.
  • Competent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A positive attitude and self-motivated.
  • A current drivers licence (Desirable).

If considering a dual trade:

  • Applicants should have completed or be in their third or final year of Certificate III in Electrotechnology apprenticeship.

This position is based in Chinderah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
