About the Apprenticeship:
Tweed Shire Council is proud to offer an Apprenticeship with our Inclusive & Creative Communities team. As an apprentice, you'll gain hands-on experience while completing a Certificate III in Parks and Gardens.
In order to meet the requirements of the Apprenticeship, successful completion of training and studies is required.
What you'll do:
- Learn outdoor groundskeeping and cemetery practices across three working and historic cemeteries.
- Perform brush cutting, tree felling, and tree removal.
- Use equipment such as a medium rigid truck, tractor, digger, push mower, and ride-on mower.
- Carry out water blasting and clean public facilities.
- Gain an introduction to burial and ash interment practices.
- Assist with grave and ash interment set-up and take-down.
- Complete burial records and documentation for burials, machinery use, and fuel consumption.
- Learn safe operation of the cremator and ash cremulator.
- Handle coffins safely.
- Attach plaques to new and existing ash and grave interments.
- Perform maintenance on small plant and equipment.
What's on offer:
- A full-time position for a maximum period of up to 48 months, commencing July 2025.
- A starting base salary ranging from $32,973 to $62,358 per annum +11.5% super. Salary progression is based on satisfactory completion of study plus work performance.
- Council will cover the associated course costs.

We are seeking:
- Outdoor experience in mowing, pruning, tree felling, and brush cutting.
- Ability to use outdoor equipment confidently.
- Interest in working in and learning about cemetery operations.
- Competent written and verbal communication skills.
- A positive attitude and self-motivated.
- The ability to apply skills and training effectively.
- A current driver’s license and a medium rigid truck licence, or willingness to obtain
