Glamorgan Spring Bay Council is seeking an enthusiastic and community-minded Environmental Health Officer to join our Planning and Development team based in Triabunna.
This is an ongoing part-time position working 2 to 3 days (15 to 22.5 hours) per week, offering an annual salary of $80,019 to $92,204 (pro rata) plus 18.5% superannuation, with the option to take 6.5% of the superannuation contribution as salary.
About the Role
Reporting to the Senior Environmental Health Officer, you’ll play an important role in protecting and promoting public and environmental health across the Glamorgan Spring Bay municipality.
This is a varied role that will see you:
- Undertake inspections of food businesses, public facilities, swimming pools and other regulated premises.
- Investigate environmental health complaints and work with stakeholders to achieve practical and compliant outcomes.
- Provide environmental health advice and education to residents, businesses and community groups.
- Maintain accurate inspection, investigation and compliance records.
- Interpret and apply relevant environmental health legislation, regulations and standards.
- Work collaboratively with Council’s Planning and Natural Resource Management teams on environmental matters.
- Liaise with relevant State Government agencies and participate in statewide Local Government networks.
- Contribute to Council’s strategic environmental health priorities.
About You
You’ll bring sound environmental health knowledge together with a practical, community-focused approach. You’ll be confident engaging with a diverse range of people and able to balance regulatory responsibilities with education, advice and positive stakeholder relationships.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- A Degree in Environmental Health, or another qualification recognised by the Director of Public Health for appointment as an Environmental Health Officer in Tasmania.
- A current driver’s licence.
- Experience undertaking environmental health inspections and investigations.
- The ability to interpret and apply relevant environmental health legislation.
- Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to educate, negotiate, influence and manage conflict professionally.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while working both independently and collaboratively.
Previous Local Government experience will be highly regarded.
