As our Road Safety Officer, you will lead impactful road safety programs, analyse trends and risks, and work with key stakeholders to deliver initiatives that improve the safety and wellbeing of our community. You will be at the forefront of developing, implementing, and evaluating vital road safety programs and plans that make a tangible difference. Your analytical skills will enable you to assess crash data and identify risks, while your project management expertise will ensure the successful delivery of community-focused road safety programs.

Reporting to the Senior Transport Engineer, the Road Safety Officer is responsible for the preparation, implementation and promotion of road safety programs for the Shellharbour Local Government Area. You will provide road safety advice for designs, projects, actions and strategies led by Council. Liaise with community groups, schools, the media, Local Transport Forum, Transport for NSW and the NSW Police Service.

Ideal Candidates Will Bring:

We are looking for passionate individuals who possess a blend of technical knowledge and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications in relevant fields such as Behavioral Sciences, Health Promotion, or Engineering.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing effective road safety programs.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement capabilities, particularly with community and educational groups.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to connect with diverse audiences.
  • Analytical skills for data interpretation and trend identification to support transport planning.
  • Project management experience, including budget handling and outcome delivery.
  • A current NSW Driver’s License and a valid Working with Children Check clearance.

  • Commencing salary range from $92,894 - $102,562 per annum (dependent on qualifications and experience)
