This role is responsible for keeping Council’s bridge network safe, reliable, and operating at its best. It involves managing the bridge asset database, planning and scheduling maintenance works, and coordinating staff, contractors, and resources to deliver efficient outcomes within budget.
About the role:
- Lead and supervise a dedicated Bridge Maintenance crew, overseeing daily operations to keep critical infrastructure safe, reliable, and performing at its best.
- Plan and deliver maintenance and repair programs for timber and concrete bridges across Tweed Shire, coordinating resources and managing budget to achieve efficient outcomes.
- Apply strong technical expertise in bridge construction and maintenance, ensuring compliance with Australian standards and staying current through collaboration with industry authorities.
- Take ownership in the field—making confident, on-site decisions in regional areas while solving problems and adapting to changing work demands.
- Bring a flexible, detail-focused approach, supporting team members during peak workloads, delivering high-quality client service, and applying Council’s risk management principles in all activities.
What's on offer:
- a base salary ranging from $77,555 per annum with competency-based increments up to $91,053 per annum, plus 12% super
- This rate includes the 2026 Award increase, which is effective from pay week ending 10 July 2026
- 76 hour, 9 day fortnight

We are seeking:
- Trade-qualified professional with a Carpentry (Civil) background (or equivalent) and current MR licence, ready to lead from the front.
- Proven bridge expert with hands-on experience in timber and concrete construction, pile driving, and heavy crane operations.
- Strong safety leader with solid knowledge of WHS, environmental systems, and traffic control on active worksites.
- Confident planner and supervisor, skilled in programming works, managing crews, and coordinating plant, resources, and budgets.
- Organised and detail-driven, with experience in asset systems, reporting, and maintaining accurate records to support smart decision-making.

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
