Strategic Water Officer

MidCoast Council is seeking a skilled and motivated Strategic Water Officer to join our Water Management and Treatment (WMAT) Department. This role is pivotal in ensuring the ongoing development of urban water and sewerage services, maintaining high product quality, supporting environmental sustainability, and ensuring compliance with regulatory obligations.

The Role

In this position, you will play a key role in planning, delivering, and maintaining water and wastewater management systems that meet both community expectations and regulatory standards. You will ensure compliance with licence conditions, support the Drinking Water Quality Management System, and provide expert advice on environmental and water quality matters.

Key Responsibilities & Duties 

  • Plan, deliver, and maintain water quality, environmental, and risk management strategies.
  • Monitor operations to ensure compliance with licence and regulatory requirements.
  • Investigate environmental incidents and provide recommendations to prevent recurrence.
  • Respond to community enquiries regarding water quality.
  • Provide technical advice on water quality and environmental protection.
  • Conduct field sampling and contribute to long-term sustainability strategies.
  • Liaise with regulators, stakeholders, and external agencies.

What you'll briing

  • Degree in Process, Chemical, Environmental Science, or Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Extensive experience in planning, managing, and delivering water quality systems.
  • Strong knowledge of statutory compliance, regulatory frameworks, and industry standards in the regulated water sector.
  • Proven ability to analyse data and produce high-quality technical reports.
  • Strong relationship management skills with both internal and external stakeholders.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $94,500 p.a. plus superannuation. 

Vehicle Arrangement: A vehicle arrangement will be made with the successful candidate for this role. Council will provide you with a leaseback vehicle for an annual fee calculated as 20% of the gross purchase price. This is a fully maintained vehicle for both business and full private use with no additional expenses in normal use.

Location: This position will be based at our Administration Centre in Yalawanyi Ganya at 2 Biripi Way, Taree. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region. 

Tenure: Permanent, Full time
