Waste and Environment Officer
- Coordinate the development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of Council’s Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy, supporting regional and state waste priorities.
- Support the delivery of community waste minimisation and resource recovery initiatives, identifying opportunities for service improvement, innovation and external funding
- Support the effective delivery of Council’s waste services, including recycling and organics collection, landfill, waste transfer station and tip shop operations.
- Contribute to waste service planning, budgeting, reporting and contract management activities.
- Support Council’s environmental and sustainability objectives through the implementation of the Greening Strategy and Environmental Stewardship Plan.

Position Overview
The Environment and Waste Officer plays a key role in supporting Council’s commitment to sustainable waste management and environmental stewardship. This position is responsible for the on-ground coordination, monitoring and support of Council’s waste services, waste facilities and environmental programs, with a strong operational and technical focus.
The position also coordinates operational activities and manages data collection, monitoring and reporting requirements to support informed decision-making, continuous improvement and regulatory compliance.
Work conditions will be in accordance with Circular Head Council Enterprise Agreement.

Candidate Profile
As a candidate, you will bring demonstrated experience in waste operations, waste facilities or environmental service delivery, along with a practical, detail-oriented approach and strong commitment to safety, compliance and customer-focused service delivery. You will work collaboratively with internal teams, contractors and stakeholders to support the delivery of efficient, compliant waste services and the implementation of Council’s Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy, contributing to improved waste minimisation and resource recovery outcomes.
- Relevant qualifications in waste management, resource recovery, or a related field, or demonstrated equivalent practical experience in waste operations.
- Current Driver Licence, with the ability to undertake site inspections and travel between Council facilities as required.
- Sound understanding of waste management legislation, environmental compliance requirements and industry best practice.
- Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate tasks, manage competing priorities, manage customer enquiries and accurately analyse and report operational and environmental data.

Salary and Benefits
The successful candidate will earn an attractive salary of $77,217 PLUS super and a range of benefits including:
