The City of Ryde Council is offering the below Engineering Internships for a period of up to 6 months:
Eligibility: This internship is open to students who are currently enrolled in a university degree. Applications from graduates or individuals who have completed their studies will not be considered.
1. Engineering Assistant - Infrastructure Services | Engineering & Project Delivery x1
Principal Duties
- Contributing to Council’s Works Program for all Council infrastructure assets including; roads, footpaths, bridges, seawalls, retaining walls, streetlights, bus stops, stormwater drainage, kerb & gutter and other civil infrastructure assets
- Preparing sketches for footpath expansion, road resurfacing surfacing, heavy patches and kerb & gutter repairs using GIS tools such as CADCorp SIS Mapping Software.
- Assist in the preparation of project briefs and budget estimates
- Inspecting Council assets including road pavements, kerb & gutter, footpaths, signage and line marking, etc for Asset Management Purposes. Documenting inspection findings and recording condition of assets.
- Assist in marking out for pavement investigation and heavy patching for road works, quantity calculation and estimation
- Inspecting utilities within the local government area of Ryde and reporting damaged utilities to relevant authorities
- Reporting damaged assets using Council’s asset management system (i.e. TechOne, MERIT).
- Assisting Infrastructure Services with investigations related to customer requests and enquiries
- Assist in outdoor dining application site inspections
- Assist in the preparation and release of flood certificates
- Assist in the preparation of real estate pointer sign permits.
2. Engineering Assistant - Design | Engineering & Project Delivery x 1
Principal Duties
- Utilising AutoCAD Civil3D software to prepare minor designs for footpaths, kerb and gutter and driveways
- Assist the Design Section in various task, as required
- Responding to phone enquires and inspections associated with driveway designs, driveway construction and restorations
- Assisting Council Design Engineers and Surveyors with the collection of field data & the subsequent setting out for the construction of works for road, drainage, parks, playground & footpath projects
- Progressing, with experience, to more unsupervised field work & design drafting
- Surveying of residential driveways with Survey Assistants
- Letter drops preceding a Council project and courier activities
- General office duties
3. Engineering Assistant – Activation and Compliance | Engineering & Project x 1
Principal Duties
- Review driveway design plans
- Complete final inspections of driveways or other elements of the public domain construction works, and assisting with the certification / asset handover process for driveways and other external works.
- Assist Senior Coordinator Activation and Compliance in supervision of contractors undertaking restoration works and driveway construction
- Completing formwork inspections and endorsing formwork prior to pouring of concrete, ensuring that driveway construction or gutter crossings are compliant with approved plans.
- Liaison with internal and external stakeholders in relation to Council asset restorations
- Attending to restoration enquiries by conducting necessary site inspections and reporting back to Activation and Compliance team.
- Other tasks as required by Council Operations Department
- General office duties.
Rate of pay: Please note that the rate of pay for all positions is $1,042.45 per week, plus superannuation.
