About the Role

As Manager Tourism and Communications, you will provide strategic direction and operational leadership across Councils tourism promotion, destination, development and corporate communications functions. 

This is a self-driven, hands-on, creative and strategic leadership position suited to someone who thrives on variety, collaboration and community engagement. 

Key Responsibilities

Communications - Community Engagement - Tourism & Regional Development - Events

  • Oversee and implement Council’s communications across multiple platforms, including digital, print and social media
  • Develop engaging content relating to Council initiatives, services, projects and decisions
  • Keep the community informed about Council services, policies, and activities, as well as broader community information such as local events, programs, grants, and opportunities
  • Coordinate community engagement and communication plans for key projects across various departments
  • Support and partner with community groups, volunteers, and local organisations to encourage participation and strengthen community connections
  • Facilitate programs and initiatives that build community capacity, participation, and access to resources
  • Develop and support initiatives to grow the visitor economy and support local tourism businesses
  • Implement regional destination management strategies in collaboration with neighbouring councils and tourism partners
  • Support marketing and promotion of the region, including events, attractions, and Council assets
  • Manage funding programs that enable community-led tourism and visitor initiatives
  • Coordinate and support major community and tourism events that attract visitors and encourage local engagement
  • Work with stakeholders to ensure events are well-promoted, accessible, and aligned with Council and regional objectives

About You

We're seeking a confident, community-minded leader who brings both strategic thinking and practical delivery. 

You will demonstrate:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or relevant experience in communications, marketing, tourism or a related field
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement capability
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced digital marketing and social media expertise
  • Experience in community project delivery 
  • The ability to work both strategically and hands-on

Experience within local government or regional tourism will be highly regarded.

Most importantly, you are passionate about regional communities, economic growth and community pride.
