About the role
This position is responsible for providing high-level, strategic and holistic senior support to Councillors across administrative, advisory, executive and project or ward-based functions for all Council-related matters.
As a senior role within Councillor Support, this position brings a strategic lens to ward-based activities and Councillor engagement, ensuring alignment with Council’s strategic objectives, Delivery Program and Operational Plan (DPOP), and good governance practices.
Due to the nature of the role, flexibility for in-office attendance beyond standard Council requirements is essential, with occasional out-of-hours support required for Council meetings or events.
On a daily basis you will:
- Provide high-level administrative, executive and advisory support to Councillors in a complex and politically sensitive environment.
- Assist the Coordinator Councillor Support, in the coordination and enhancement of Ward Workshops, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, project tracking, budget management, and data analysis for actionable insights.
- Build strong and productive partnerships within Council, with the local residential and business communities, government bodies and local organisations to contribute to the delivery of Council’s strategic outcomes.
- Manage and prioritise Councillor service requests, meeting requests and constituent enquiries.
- Prepare high-quality correspondence, reports, and presentations for Councillors, Council and Committee meetings, when required.
- Manage complex and politically sensitive information with confidentiality, diplomacy and tact.
- Ensure correspondence, advice and actions align with Council’s strategic vison, relevant legislation, policies and governance requirements.
- Support the Coordinator, Councillor Support in advisory functions, continuous improvement initiatives, and the delivery of Councillor induction and professional development programs.
- Support a culture of diversity, inclusion, and ethical behaviour within the team and across the organisation.
About You
Ideal candidates are highly experienced professionals who thrive in a fast-paced, politically complex and highly sensitive environment. You bring strong judgement, strategic thinking, exceptional communication skills and a collaborative, coaching-based approach to working with senior stakeholders.
You will also have:
- A minimum of 5 years’ relevant experience in a highly politicised and/or sensitive environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex correspondence and issues requiring multiple inputs and stakeholder perspectives.
- Proven experience coordinating multiple complex projects with competing priorities and tight deadlines.
- Highly developed analytical, research and problem-solving skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proven ability to build effective relationships and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, including Councillors, executives, staff, government representatives and members of the public.
- Ability to maintain the strictest confidentiality and exercise discretion, diplomacy and sound judgement.
Qualifications
- A degree level qualification in policy, government, business or a related discipline, or demonstrated degree equivalent experience in a highly politicised environment.
- Current NSW Driver’s Licence.

What’s on offer
We are offering an attractive remuneration from $121,367.67 to $133,651.15 plus 12% superannuation.
