We’re looking for an experienced Payroll Manager to lead a valued and respected payroll function within our Council. In this role, payroll is seen as a trusted business partner and plays a key role in delivering an outstanding employee experience.
You’ll oversee the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy, strengthening governance, and leading continuous improvement across the payroll function. With support from the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll have the opportunity to drive positive change, enhance systems and processes and shape best practice.

About You
You’re a professional with strong technical payroll expertise, who understands payroll legislation, compliance and best practice. You take pride in delivering a seamless payroll experience and have the ability to build trusted relationships with your internal stakeholders across the organisation and at all levels.
You are capable of leading change, committed to continuous improvement and confident working with Senior Leaders to strengthen systems and processes.
As a people leader, you create a culture of accountability, trust and reliability, while also strengthening technical capability within your team.
Most importantly, you believe that getting payroll right is about more than just numbers – it’s about people.
In addition, you will also have:
- Strong knowledge and understanding of taxation, superannuation, workers compensation and payroll compliance obligations
- Substantial experience with HRIS/Payroll systems
- Advanced analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to interpret legislation, policy and Awards where required
- Diploma of Payroll Management or similar course and/or relevant experience
Your commencing annual salary will range from $144,021.99 - $170,207.81 + Superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.
