Permanent | Full time (35 hours per week)

Salary: $115,810 – $128,150 + 12% superannuation

Narrabri Shire Council is seeking an experienced and strategic Manager Tourism and Cultural Services to lead tourism, libraries, cultural programs and major community events across the region.

This is a senior leadership role with the opportunity to shape Narrabri’s destination profile, strengthen community and cultural outcomes, and deliver services that support economic growth and community wellbeing.


About the Role

Reporting to the Director Corporate and Community Services, you will provide leadership across tourism, visitor services, libraries, cultural initiatives and community events. You’ll drive destination marketing and tourism growth, oversee high quality library and cultural services, and work closely with internal teams, community groups and government stakeholders.


Key areas of responsibility include:

  • Leading tourism strategy, destination marketing and promotion of Narrabri Shire
  • Managing the Visitor Information Centre and tourism services
  • Developing and delivering major tourism, cultural and community events
  • Providing leadership and direction across library services and cultural programs
  • Managing budgets, operational plans and performance reporting
  • Building strong partnerships with industry, community, artists and government agencies
  • Leading, developing and supporting a multidisciplinary team

About You

You’re a confident people leader with experience across tourism, community or cultural services, and a passion for place-based outcomes. You’re comfortable operating at both a strategic and operational level and thrive in stakeholder-rich environments.

You will bring:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Tourism, Librarianship or a related discipline, and/or significant relevant experience
  • Proven experience in tourism marketing, destination development or business promotion
  • Experience in community development and working with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong background in event and project management
  • Demonstrated experience managing budgets and operational plans
  • Leadership experience, including staff supervision and performance management
  • High level communication, negotiation and relationship building skills
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Current NSW Class C Driver Licence


Desirable experience includes:

  • Local government experience
  • Library services or cultural programming experience
  • Grant research, preparation and submission
