We’re a vibrant local council dedicated to making Shellharbour a great place to live, work and play. We believe that our parks and open spaces are the heart of our community and we’re looking for passionate individuals to help us maintain and enhance these areas for everyone to enjoy.

Position Title: Open Spaces Labourer
Reports to: Team Coordinator Parks (City West)
Employment Type: Full-Time, 38 hours pr week, 9 day fortnight
Location: The Services Depot, Oak Flats
Salary: $56,151 - $61,995 per annum dependent on qualifications, skills and experience + 12% superannuation
Allowances: Adverse Working Conditions Allowance (Level 1) of $19.49 per week 

As an Open Spaces Labourer, your role will include:

  • Keeping our parks and gardens looking their best
  • Caring for Council parks, tools and equipment, making sure everything is used safely and responsibly
  • Working efficiently with your team to complete park and bushland jobs using the right tools and equipment for the task
  • Engage with community members and staff to help keep everyone informed about what's happening in our parks and bushland areas.

What we are looking for

  • Experience in parks and gardens work, with the practical skills, knowledge and physical capability needed to carry out daily tasks.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work well with supervisors, teammates, the public, and external groups.
  • Ability to follow work schedules and instructions, working independently with minimal supervision while supporting team outcomes.
  • Commitment to safe work practices, with an understanding of WHS requirements, relevant policies, and basic ability to use computers and mobile devices.

Essential requirements

  • General Construction Induction (White Card)
  • SafeWork NSW Traffic Control Training Card
  • Farm Chemical Users Certificate (or equivalent)
