The Role
 
Shellharbour City Council is looking for a Fabricator to deliver high‑quality fabrication services that support the construction, maintenance and ongoing performance of Council’s assets.

Position Title: Fabricator
Reports to: Fabrication Coordinator
Employment Type: Full-Time, 38 hours pr week, 9 day fortnight
Location: Oak Flats, NSW
Salary: $72,943 to $80,015 per annum dependent on qualifications, skills and experience, inclusive of applicable allowances (tools & meals). A market loading applies to this role to ensure competitiveness in attracting suitably qualified candidates. This is subject to Council approval and periodic review.
Allowances: Adverse Working Conditions Allowance (Level 1) of $19.49 per week 

This role involves coordinating staff and resources, ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety requirements and providing day‑to‑day operational support to the Fabrication Coordinator. As a key member of the team, the Fabricator contributes to the supervision and development of apprentices, oversees fabrication works and supports continuous improvements in operational efficiency.
Through specialist trade expertise, this position ensures Council’s assets are maintained to a high standard for the benefit of the local community.
 
In this role, you will be responsible for:
  • Delivering safe, efficient fabrication services to support the construction and maintenance of Council assets and external works.
  • Coordinating staff, plant and resources to achieve quality outcomes within agreed safety, budget, and timeframes.
  • Monitoring operational performance, supporting cost control, and maintaining accurate records and reporting.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, Council policies, safety standards and environmental requirements.
  • Providing hands‑on fabrication support, technical advice and leadership to staff and apprentices, including acting in a senior role when required.

  • A trade qualification in fabrication.
  • Proven experience in managing staff development and performance.
  • Strong communication skills for effective liaison with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to estimate costs, manage budgets and review technical plans.
  • Have a commitment to workplace health and safety practices.
  • Current NSW Driver's Licence – Class C
