Salary Range: $71,647 - $83,265 + superannuation
Are you a skilled and passionate mechanic with a drive to ensure vehicles and equipment are in top working condition? Do you want to play an integral role in keeping our community moving, with reliable Council vehicles and equipment?
We’re looking for qualified mechanics to join our team — people who know their way around engines and enjoy a bit of variety in their day.
You’ll be working on everything from utes and tractors to graders, garbage trucks and beyond – if it’s got wheels (or tracks), you’ll probably get to work on it. Some days you’ll be in the workshop, other days you’ll be out on the road helping with breakdowns or on-site servicing. Every day you will help to keep things ticking over safely and smoothly.
You will provide essential repairs, maintenance, and servicing for a wide range of Council vehicles and equipment and will play a crucial role in ensuring that our fleet operates efficiently, safely, and cost-effectively, contributing to the successful delivery of community services and ensuring our fleet meets Council and industry standards. You will schedule and perform regular servicing, manage service records, and provide on-the-road support when needed. Your technical expertise will be crucial in diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues, as well as advising on plant specifications and liaising with external contractors and sales teams when needed.
We have 2 permanent full time positions available in Coolah, and 1 full time Term Contract (up to 2 years) position in Coonabarabran.
Coolah and Coonabarabran are two vibrant rural towns in the beautiful Warrumbungle region of NSW, offering a high quality of life, welcoming communities, and stunning natural surroundings. Whether you prefer Coolah’s charming village atmosphere at the gateway to Coolah Tops National Park or Coonabarabran’s dynamic blend of science, culture, and access to the Warrumbungle National Park, both towns provide affordable living, excellent schools, and a relaxed country lifestyle. With strong community support, diverse local amenities, and plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities, either location offers an ideal setting to live, work, and thrive in regional NSW.
Selection criteria include:
- Trade qualification as a Motor Mechanic / Heavy Vehicle Mechanic or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in the service, repair, and maintenance of both light and heavy vehicles, plant, and equipment.
- Current NSW Motor Vehicle Driver Licence (minimum MR class desirable).
- Sound knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, safe workshop practices, and risk management.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical faults and carry out effective repairs in a timely manner.
- Record-keeping and basic computer literacy skills to update service records.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
It is a big plus if you have current Authorised Inspection Station (AIS) Examiner’s licence, experience in local government or similar operational environment, forklift licence, plant operation tickets, or other relevant qualifications and a HR or HC driver’s licence. Experience working with heavy vehicles and the ability to carry out fabrication work and follow plans will also be highly regarded.
