Community Facilities Maintenance Officer

Warrumbungle Shire Council Full Time Permanent 21/01/2026

Salary Range: $58,109 - $68,694 + superannuation

Do you enjoy practical, hands-on work and take pride in keeping buildings and facilities in great condition? The Community Facilities Maintenance Officer plays an important role in maintaining and improving Council’s community buildings, public facilities and infrastructure that residents rely on every day. Working under the supervision of Council’s Carpenter, you will help ensure Council assets are safe, functional and well-presented for community use.

In this role, you will carry out a broad range of general maintenance and repair tasks, including carpentry, painting and handyman works across Council facilities. From minor repairs and preventative maintenance to assisting with planned works, you will apply sound trade skills and attention to detail to deliver high-quality outcomes. You will review plans and instructions carefully, use tools and equipment safely, and ensure all works comply with specifications and safety requirements.
You will also contribute to safe and efficient worksites by following WHS procedures, assisting with traffic control and maintaining tools and equipment in good working order. The role requires flexibility and a willingness to support other teams when needed, helping Council respond to maintenance priorities, service demands and emergency or natural disaster events such as storms or floods.

This position suits a reliable, adaptable and safety-focused person who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team. If you take pride in practical workmanship, value teamwork and want to contribute directly to the upkeep of community facilities that make a real difference to daily life, this is a rewarding opportunity.

This position is located in Coolah. Situated on the picturesque Coolaburragundy River and nestled in a valley of the Liverpool Range, the town is surrounded by undulating hills and fertile river flats and is an attractive service town for the surrounding agricultural district. Only an hour south east of Coonabarabran, close to major centres, and with the nearby Coolah Tops National Park offering rugged natural beauty and adventure, Coolah delivers the best of country living.

Selection criteria include:

  • Demonstrated experience in general building and facilities maintenance, including
    carpentry, painting and handyman skills.
  • Knowledge and practical application of safe work practices and WHS requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret work plans, instructions and specifications accurately.
  • Experience in the safe use, operation and maintenance of hand tools, power tools and
    small plant/equipment.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Sound problem-solving skills with the ability to adapt to varying work environments and
    priorities.
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence.

It is a plus if you have qualifications or training in carpentry, building maintenance, or related trades and experience in local government or facilities maintenance in a community setting. First Aid certificate, current working at heights and confined spaces tickets are also desirable.
