Employment Arrangement: 35 hours per week with access to Council’s Agile Work Policy
Salary Range:

  • Base Salary: From $100,282.00 (Grade 18, Step 1) per annum
  • Plus: 12% superannuation
  • Total Package: $112,315.84 plus leaseback vehicle.

The successful candidate will have access to step increases for the grade based on competency assessment and tenure within this position.

The role also offers access to a leaseback vehicle and agile working conditions, such as a four-day week or nine-day fortnight as well as the option to include working from home. This is subject to operational requirements.

The Opportunity

Strathfield Council is seeking a motivated Senior Environmental Health Officer to join our team.

In this role, you will lead investigations and enforcement activities relating to public and environmental health, providing expert advice and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. You will manage a varied workload across food safety, pollution, and public health matters, working closely with internal teams, external agencies, and the community.

This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in a growing local government area, contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, and mentor Environmental Health Officers while supporting positive outcomes for community health and wellbeing.

 

Essential Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) degree or equivalent qualifications acceptable for membership of Environmental Health Australia.
  • Extensive experience as an Environmental Health Officer in a local government environment or similar position.
  • Thorough working knowledge of appropriate sections of the Local Government Act 1993, Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997, Food Act 2003, Food Standards Codes, Public Health Act 2010, and other relevant legislation, codes, guidelines and standards.
  • Ability to prepare informative technical reports on investigations and outcomes of environmental, public and community health issues.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to engage and maintain relationships with stakeholders.
  • Ability to impart technical and professional knowledge to members of the public.
  • Demonstrated computer skills and ability to use commercial databases and information registers, including the ability to adapt to new software and systems.
  • Sound organisation and time management skills.
  • Must hold a current Class C Driver’s Licence.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated proficiency with relevant technical equipment including sound level meters and water testing apparatus.
