The Opportunity

Join our Senior Leadership Team as the Manager City Works and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our city. Reporting to the Director Infrastructure & Works, you will lead one of Council's largest and most dynamic portfolios, responsible for delivering essential services and infrastructure that directly enhance the quality of life for our community. You will oversee a team of 200+ professionals and manage a combined operational and capital budget exceeding $65 million annually.

This is a permanent full time position, salary: Circa $250,000 per annum plus the option of a motor vehicle under lease back arrangements (salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications).

  • Provide visionary and inclusive leadership across the City Works portfolio, inspiring your team to achieve excellence.
  • Champion innovation and drive continuous improvement in service delivery and asset management.
  • Lead cultural and organisational change, uplifting performance and fostering a positive, achievement-oriented environment.
  • Build and nurture strong relationships across Council, the community and key stakeholders.
  • Ensure all activities align with Council's strategic goals and reflect the expectations and aspirations of our community.
  • Oversee civil maintenance and construction, building maintenance, trades services, plant/fleet/equipment maintenance and renewal, facilities management of Council's CBD assets, after-hours emergency management, and the WHS Operational Team.

About You

You are an energetic leader with a passion for creating a culture of achievement and delivering on-time, on-budget quality outcomes. You have a proven ability to translate strategic direction into operational goals, lead transformational programs, and foster a high-performance, customer-focused culture.

You will have:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering and eligibility for professional membership with Engineers Australia.
  • Significant experience in one or more of the following: civil construction and maintenance, building maintenance, or plant/equipment/fleet maintenance and renewal.
  • Extensive experience leading large, multidisciplinary teams at a senior management level.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale city operations and deliver strategic and operational advice to executive management.
  • A track record of leading transformational change and influencing diverse stakeholders to resolve complex issues and deliver strategic outcomes.
