About the role:

This role is a key part of a collaborative team of Building Surveyors, responsible for assessing and approving a wide range of development and building applications, with a focus on single dwellings and related structures. It combines technical expertise in planning and building legislation with strong communication skills, offering advice to the public and resolving issues across Council offices. The position also plays an important role in preparing documentation, supporting construction projects, and contributing to a positive development experience for the community.

We are seeking:

  • Accreditation or evidence of completed training which provides eligibility for Registration as a Certified Building Surveyor within 12 months of commencement of employment, under the Building and Development Certifiers Act 2018 and the associated Building and Development Certifiers Regulation 2020, administered by the Building Commission NSW.
  • Holds a valid Class C driver’s licence and brings practical experience as a Building Surveyor.
  • Demonstrates strong working knowledge of key legislation and codes, including the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act, Local Government Act, National Construction Code, and relevant plumbing and certifier regulations.
  • Skilled in managing staff and workflows, with proven ability to communicate clearly and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • Well-versed in development and building regulations, with the ability to apply this knowledge confidently in a range of scenarios.

Where it's located:

This position is based in Murwillumbah, and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
