Join our team as a versatile Plant Operator, responsible for operating and maintaining a wide range of civil machinery—including forklifts, rollers, sweepers, trucks and more—across the shire. This hands-on role requires independence, a strong safety focus, and the ability to support labouring tasks and collaborate with teams to meet operational needs.
About the role:
- Operate and maintain a wide range of plant and machinery, including forklifts, rollers, sweepers, tip trucks and other civil equipment as required.
- Navigate independently to various work sites across the shire, using sound knowledge of the local road network.
- Follow Council’s safety procedures and comply with all relevant State Licence Regulations and Traffic Laws.
- Communicate effectively with Supervisors and collaborate with other crews to complete tasks efficiently.
- Perform labouring duties when equipment is idle or under repair, with flexibility to work outside normal hours if rostered.

We are seeking:
- Sound literacy and numeracy skills to read job instructions, equipment manuals and accurately complete records such as run sheets, safety checks, and timesheets.
- Proven competency in operating a variety of civil plant and machinery, including trucks (MR/HR Licence), sweepers, mowers, rollers and forklifts (High Risk Work Licence).
- Skilled in routine plant maintenance and cleaning procedures to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with a demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a crew.
- Holds a current General Construction Induction Card (White Card) and relevant licences/accreditations, including ChemCert for spray truck operation.

This position is based in Murwillumbah and can be directed to work from any Council work site.
