Trainee - Civil Operations

THE POSITION:

Fairfield City Council is planning to participate in the NSW Government’s ‘A Fresh Start for Local Government Apprentices, Trainees and Cadets’ program. We are seeking those who have an interest in gaining on-the-job work experience whilst completing a traineeship to obtain a Certificate III in Civil Construction (Road Construction and Maintenance) through TAFE or a Registered Training Organisation (RTO). The Civil Operations Trainee role will work within the Civil Operations Branch, contributing to the delivery of maintenance and construction programs across the city’s road network, drainage infrastructure, footpaths and associated public assets.

ESSENTIAL:

  • Commitment to completing a 24–36-month traineeship including the Certificate III in Civil Construction – Road Construction and Maintenance (RII30920).
  • Good communication and teamwork skills to work effectively in a field-based team environment.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills to complete paperwork and training requirements.
  • Basic digital literacy (e.g. tablets, phones, job tracking apps).
  • A willingness to learn and a basic understanding of civil maintenance and construction principles.
  • Awareness of work health and safety and a willingness to comply with safety procedures.
  • Physical capacity to undertake labouring duties and work in outdoor conditions.
  • Completion of Year 10 with satisfactory results (Record of School Achievement – RoSA).
  • WHS General Construction Induction Card (White Card) or willingness to obtain.
  • Current C Class driver’s licence (P1 minimum) or ability to obtain.

DESIRABLE:

  • MR or HR Licence or willingness to obtain during the traineeship

ABOUT THE APPRENTICESHIP

  • This apprenticeship is part of the Certificate III in Civil Construction – Road Construction and Maintenance delivered through a combination of on-the-job training and formal study. The course will provide you with the skills and knowledge to become a qualified sign writer and pursue a successful career in the industry.
  • Salary for this position as per the Local Government (State) Award 2023 Band 1 rates of pay
