The Opportunity

Is good storytelling your world? We're looking for an experienced Content Writer and Creator to join our Communications and Marketing team and to contribute to Council's vision of creating an Extraordinary Wollongong.

This team is responsible for delivering communications, media and marketing content, strategies and initiatives for the organisation, and providing integrated communication and marketing services.

In this role you'll use your top-notch writing and visual storytelling skills to develop interesting and engaging multi-channel promotional and informational content for Council's community-focussed channels as well as internal audiences.

You'll research, develop and produce content that builds awareness of Council's work, initiatives and programs. Your strength will be working across written and visual mediums, you'll have an eye for detail and deliver accurate and timely content. You'll be an enthusiastic and collaborative team member who thrives in a fast-paced environment where multitasking is the norm.

This is a Part time 21 hours per week term contract to cover parental leave for up to 12 months with the possibility of extension and permanency depending on operational needs. Salary from $26 per up to $38 per hour plus superannuation (Salary package will be assessed based on skills, experience and qualifications) You'll be required to work a rotating roster, including outside core business hours, to ensure timely and responsive management of our social media channels.

How you'll make a difference

  • You'll be using your experience in both written and visual mediums to communicate key Council information on a wide range of channels.
  • You'll use your creativity to come up with new ways of sharing key information to Council's diverse audiences while drawing upon your strong editorial judgement and exceptional photography and video skills.
  • You'll love working as part of an energetic team to deliver purposeful strategic and integrated communications strategies which build awareness of Council's work, plans and actions.
  • You'll support the Senior Communications Coordinator and Communications and Marketing Manager on tasks as required.

About you

With a background in communications, you love the challenge of working in a fast-paced environment where balancing and meeting - multiple deadlines is the norm.

You're the sort of person who loves to think of new ways to creatively tell a story whether that be through words, photography or video. You embrace a collaborative work environment, and have strong editorial judgement and excellent copy writing skills, which compliment your video-making capabilities.
