About the Role

Strathfield Council is seeking a Financial Accountant to join our finance team on a full time, permanent basis.

The Financial Accountant plays a crucial role in the finance team, focusing on managing financial transactions and ensuring their accuracy. This role supports financial reporting, compliance, and the maintenance of strong financial controls, contributing significantly to the organisation's financial health, financial accountability, and regulatory compliance.

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (essential), with a membership to a professional body (e.g. CPA, ACCA, CA) or similar professional certification (desirable).
  • Solid experience in financial accounting, with a proven track record of accuracy, reliability, problem-solving, and business improvement.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting standards, principles, regulations, and best practices, with the ability to interpret and apply complex accounting standards to business transactions and contractual arrangements.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Excel, with the ability to manipulate and analyse large datasets, with strong analytical skills, ability to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex accounting issues.
  • Demonstrated innovation and a commitment to automation, with experience in implementing process improvements and leveraging technology to streamline financial processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work, even under pressure.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible and adaptable approach to changing priorities.
  • Solid experience supporting financial operations and undertaking transactional work such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking and receipting, refund processing, and other transactional tasks.
  • Solid experience supporting other core finance functions, including business partnering, budgeting, and forecasting, and financial planning, is highly desirable.
