About the Role
The City of Ryde Council is seeking to appoint one independent member to its Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee. This process may be used to fill other positions on the Committee as they arise.
The Committee was established to promote good corporate governance at Council. Acting as an independent advisory Committee, it provides advice to Council to assist with its oversight responsibilities.
The objective of Council's Audit, Risk and Improvement Committee (ARIC) is to enhance the Council's governance framework, risk management practices, strategy and performance environment by providing independent advice to the Council.
Council is seeking a member who has high levels of accounting or related financial management and financial reporting experience. The candidate must have the relevant qualifications including current membership with an accredited professional accounting body such as Institute of Chartered Accountants (Australia), CPA Australia or Institute of Public Accountants. The candidate must also possess a comprehensive and thorough knowledge and understanding of the Australian Accounting Standards and Financial Regulations. Experience in Public Sector including Local Government Industry is preferrable.
Council practices EEO and WHS principles.

Selection Criteria
Independent members of audit, risk and improvement committee must demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated understanding of the role of an Audit and Risk Committee member and the relevant legislative and regulatory requirements applicable to Council, including:-

- An ability to read and understand financial statements and a capacity to understand the broad requirements and responsibilities of Local Government.
- Functional knowledge in areas such as risk management, performance management, human resources management, internal and external auditing, financial reporting, accounting, management control frameworks, internal financial controls, governance (including planning, reporting and oversight), or business operations
- A capacity to form independent judgements and willingness to constructively question management practices and information
- Professional, ethical approach to the exercise of their duties and the capacity to devote the necessary time and effort to the responsibilities of an independent member of an audit, risk and improvement committee.
