Although not a pre-requisite: a desirable would be that you are also a registered Building Surveyor or willing to undertake studies to become a registered Building Surveyor.

The Position
As a talented and qualified Environmental Health Officer, you will enjoy working in this sole position at a fast-paced level within a friendly community. Responsibilities include the efficient and effective delivery of environmental health services for the purpose of maintaining environmental and public health protection primarily to the Shire of Irwin and also on a regular roster to the neighboring Shires of Mingenew, Three Springs and Carnamah with the focus on improving health and wellbeing for our communities and promoting compliance to legislation.
Ideally our candidate will have:
Developed knowledge of the Public Health Act 2016, Health (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1911, Food Act 2008, associated regulations and other applicable legislation and codes of practice.
Strong skills in research and evaluation, report writing and developing, and review of Local Laws, policies and procedural development are essential.
Competent in undertaking inspections, assessments, and licensing under various statutory requirements.
Ability to provide a high standard of professional advice to the public on health matters including effective decision-making skills.
Sound skills in general IT use, including Microsoft office and the Synergy soft system is a requirement of the position.
The Person
To be successful you will have the following essentials:
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science (Environmental Health) degree or equivalent.
Authorised person and inspector under the Environmental Protection Act 1986 Sections 87 & 88 is desirable.
Desirable but not essential: qualified as a Registered Building Surveyor or ambition to undertake studies to become a registered Building Surveying. (Costs will be borne by the Shire of Irwin in accordance with Shire Policies).
Valid and unrestricted C Class driver’s licence.

Traits and Experience
Minimum 5+ years’ experience in all matters relating to environmental health and a developed working knowledge of all relevant legislation.
Leadership experience with the ability to drive results.
Developed knowledge of gathering of evidence and court procedures.
Demonstrated experience in the preparation of management and Council reports.
Ability to determine appropriate enforcement options (warnings, notices and orders, penalty notices, legal proceedings) to achieve compliance with legislation.
Strong customer focus with the ability to effectively communicate, negotiate and influence.
Self-Starter who is adept at managing priorities with effective decision-making skills.
