About the Role

You will be given the autonomy to own your role and its responsibilities in leading your team to deliver designs in line with Council's operational plan. The position is pivotal in the development of high-quality, innovative, and exciting capital works projects such as state of the art playgrounds and recreation spaces, carparks, stormwater drainage infrastructure and roadworks. .

In addition, you will also:
  • Lead, guide, mentor and develop a Design Team of multi-disciplinary professionals (Civil Engineers, Surveyors, Landscape Architects)
  • Utilise your expert knowledge of legislation, regulations, safety in design, design standards, and code of practice relating to the design, construction and management of the built environment
  • Ensure designs are delivered within the allocated budget, time, and quality objectives
  • Manage the quality of designs with a wholistic approach and approve designs of council assets
  • Identify value-adds and innovations and implement within design management process
  • Drive the forward planning of design work as part of councils four year delivery plan
  • Manage the procurement and delivery of outsourced designs
Your commencing annual salary will range from $125,525 - $144,354 + 3.5% CLA + superannuation, dependent on your experience and qualifications.

Please note that this Senior Design Manager position is internally known as Senior Coordinator Design.

Key Requirements
  • Degree in Civil Engineering and Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation or equivalent
  • Proven experience in leading and managing a multi-disciplinary design team and incorporating constructability advice from the Project Delivery team
  • Expert computer skills in MS Project, computer-aided design (CAD), Civil 3D
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in reducing risks associated with contaminated waste as well as clashes with utilities during the planning and design phase
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and motivate a multi-disciplinary team
  • High level computer systems knowledge
  • Class C Drivers Licence
