Berrigan Shire is situated in the Southern Riverina and consists predominantly of irrigated rural land, therefore its main income is derived from the agriculture industry. Berrigan Shire is located to the north of the Murray River, half-way between Albury and Echuca. The Council boundaries encompass the towns of Barooga, Berrigan, Finley and Tocumwal which offer a range of first-class lifestyle opportunities including recreation, health and education facilities.

An exciting career opportunity now exists for a qualified statutory planner to join Council and manage the planning and development function. This role offers the successful candidate a defined career path for the right person. Reporting to the Director Strategic Planning and Development and with seven direct reports, this role will be responsible for managing the Council’s strategic land use planning, development assessment and oversee statutory provision of the Council’s delivery of the same.

You will lead and participate in the development and review of the Council’s suite of integrated plans and provide specialist advice on economic, environmental and social implications of regional and local strategic planning initiatives.

This role has been identified as a succession plan position to the Director Strategic Planning and Development over time. O The role provides an opportunity for someone coveting a senior executive level position with a strong work ethic and desire to learn and gain experience across the full gambit of the directorate’s functions.

To be successful in this role, you will highly motivated with proven experience leading and managing a multidisciplinary team. You will have tertiary qualifications in urban planning and eligible for full membership with the PIanning Institute of Australia and post graduate qualifications or progress toward in Local Government, Public Administration and or Business Management or willingness to undertake.

You will have highly developed oral and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to draft concise submissions and reports. You will also have a ‘can do attitude’ to strive for best possible outcomes for the Berrigan Shire community. Council offers an attractive remuneration package of $154k total package.
