Norfolk Island is a small sub-tropical island located in the south-western Pacific Ocean, with a current population of 1,748 and an additional 600–700 visitors per week. The Island is serviced by direct regular flights from Sydney and Brisbane. The island is defined by its soaring pine trees and jagged cliffs, the island also boasts stunning sandy beaches with reef-protected waters surf beaches. Built on an economy of tourism and with seasonal fresh produce – from the farm to the table – healthy living is unavoidable!


Norfolk Island Regional Council was established on 1 July 2016 following a limited form of self-government from 1979 until 2015 and administered local, state and federal functions for the island. From 18 June 2015 until 30 June 2016 there was a period of transition under a Commonwealth administered version of the Administration of Norfolk Island until the Norfolk Island Regional Council formally and legally commenced operations from 1 July 2016.

This Regional Council is unique in that it provides a broad range of local government services to the community of Norfolk Island including telecommunications as well as electricity generation and distribution, an International Airport and additionally, Council is contracted to provide 16 Commonwealth funded state type services. Being an external Australian Territory, the Regional Council reports directly to the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure, Regional Development and Cities.

Norfolk Island Regional Council seeks to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced senior manager with a proven record of accomplishment who can provide strong leadership and change management and continue to develop the organisation in support of Council’s strategic direction. Reporting directly to the General Manager this role will require significant experience in leading change at a senior management level. You will be able to demonstrate genuine leadership qualities, strategic management skills, an understanding of complex financial management systems and an ability to create a capability-based culture.
