Position Overview

Based in Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula, the role is engaged in providing on-water marine skills and training for new and existing employees. With an emphasis on Safety and establishing consistently safe work practices, the position will also play a role in reviewing and maintaining SOPs, work instructions and policies and procedures.  

The role will work closely with the WHS Specialist and Training Coordinator to ensure a consistent approach to Safety training, reporting and record keeping specifically in Marine Operations.

Key Role Responsibilities: 

  • Conduct vessel equipment and vessel operation training
  • Conduct skipper training on Safety Management Systems
  • Vessel and workplace risk assessment and inspections
  • Competency training and assessment (capstan, crane, hydraulic systems, bilge systems etc.)
  • Vessel safety process audits / training (man overboard, fire, collision, sinking vessel)
  • Conduct pen / ring work training (knot tying and application, manual handling, net weight management and risks)
  • Fish bathing and operational risk awareness
  • Maintain an ongoing skills gap analysis to ensure training solutions are targeted and effective
  • Arrange external training opportunities
  • Talent identification for development, mentoring capability

Qualifications / Skills Required:

  • Demonstrate a depth of experience as Master 24 m / MED 2 minimum - Master 45 m desirable
  • Demonstrated aquaculture experience and knowledge; skippering vessels and working rings 
  • Certificate IV Training & Assessment preferred
  • Strong coaching, training and mentoring abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Effective rapport and relationship building skills
