Taitara Mahi – Building Consents Project Officer

The Hawke’s Bay Building Industry has experienced a period of significant growth and the region has also had to cope with Cyclone Gabrielle which is ongoing.

To support the industry, we are looking for a Building Consents Project Officer who will provide strong people leadership and analytical, policy and technical skills within the Building Consents area, known for your quality and ability to deliver you will be an integral part of our Building Consents Team.

The position involves a wide variety of work covering:

  • Being the lead on technical discussions and decisions related to the Building Code / Act.
  • Project orientated work:
    • Earthquake prone buildings
    • Ongoing Cyclone Gabrielle work
    • Supporting the Building Consents Manager in implementing process improvement
  • Being involved in across Council projects and with other territorial authorities as required.
  • Inputting to IANZ quality management process.

Ōu wheako – about you,
To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Extensive work experience in Building Control with a Local Authority.
  • A sound understanding and working knowledge of the Building Act and associated legislation.
  • Experienced and multi skilled in building, plumbing and drainage principles and practices.
  • Preferably experienced in a management / leadership role, project and analytical / policy work.
  • Experienced with computer systems and strong report writing skills.
  • Experience in or a strong understanding of working in the public sector context is likely to be preferred.
