Human Resources Officer

The Human Resources Officer role is responsible for providing high level human resources assistance to Council’ Manager People and Organisational Development in addition to effectively managing Human Resources processes including recruitment, selection, induction and the coordination of training in accordance with Council’s corporate training program. 

 Key Accountabilities for this position are:

  • Effectively coordinate Council’s corporate training program in accordance with staff training plans (including the sourcing, scheduling, administering, accommodation arrangements, maintenance of records and catering)
  • Liaise with supervisors/directors to determine training requirements for staff
  • Effectively coordinate and administer Council’s recruitment and on boarding processes
  • Effectively administer the advertising of positions vacant in print and online media
  • Ensure selection panel, recruitment and induction packs are prepared and distributed in a timely manner
  • Convene interviews and be a selection panel member
  • Arrange relevant recruitment checks and assessments for applicants (pre-employment and police checks etc.)
  • Investigate and provide timely advice to satisfy enquiries in relation to HR matters
  • Ensure the maintenance of personnel files, general filing and registering of correspondence are undertaken efficiently and in a timely manner
  • Ensure the Authority HR Module is maintained and updated regularly
  • Prepare written correspondence and reports as required
  • Secretary/minute taker of the Consultative Committee and Health and Safety Committee
  • Timely distribution of Health and Safety/Consultative Committee minutes/agendas/meeting advisements
  • Coordinate Council’s Health and Wellbeing Program
  • Return to work Coordinator
  • Administer Workers Compensation Claims
  • Production of Council’s HR bi-monthly staff newsletter 

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Certificate IV in Business (Human Resources) or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience with e-recruitment software and HR management systems
  • Ability to understand legislation and interpret Award
  • Ability to resolve minor grievances
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of trust, diplomacy and confidentiality
  • Highly developed organisational, planning and time management skills
  • Excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills
  • Well-developed written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work with a minimum level of supervision
  • Understanding of Equal Employment Opportunity requirements
  • Commitment to Work, Health and Safety requirements
  • High level computer skills in Microsoft Office suite
  • Class ‘C’ driver licence 

This position is a Grade 8 - 9 paying $2,283.54 - $2,678.82 per fortnight under the Local Government (State) Award. Applications close 4.30pm Monday 27 May 2019.
