The Community and Cultural Development Department of Penrith City Council is a dynamic and creative team who is committed to social justice. The Department undertakes a range of activities and programs that enhance community well being of the Penrith community including social planning. Social planning provides a systematic approach in identifying the present and social needs of the Penrith community and developing strategies to address the identified needs.

In this position you will be responsible for providing social planning advice to ensure Council’s strategic planning is responsive to a social justice agenda. You need to provide specialist advice on social planning issues and comment on social impact regarding proposed developments.

You will work with a whole range of community based services and management committees. You will participate in a number of community development and neighbourhood renewal projects and organise activities and events as required.

You will work in partnership with other departments within Council and our external partners to achieve access and equity outcomes and enhance the well being of the present and future of the Penrith community.

The preferred applicant will be an organised, energetic and interested in working in partnership with others to support change. The preferred applicant will have strong communication, negotiation skills, excellent project management skills and the capacity to develop initiatives working along with the community rather than imposing ideas or programs.

The successful applicant will be required to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment and negotiate with a range of external stakeholders such as developers, consultants, representatives from other government departments and community sector.

You are also required to have tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences or equivalent.

Commencing Salary: $60,200pa. A leaseback vehicle is available with this position.
